Hi everyone!

Welcome to the onboarding experimentation group.

Why do we want to test new ways to onboard users?

In Open LMS we believe that a critical part of our customer's success, is for them and their audiences to be able to make the most of the platform and make effective use of it.

With this in mind, we have embarked on the mission to approach product usage and adoption with a question in mind:

What IF the product itself helps users to learn how to do certain things in the platform?

How are we doing this?

We all know and value product training and onboarding engagements, but you have probably faced those situations in which you go through training, and then you forget what you were supposed to do right when you need it the most: when you're actually performing a task in the platform.

We believe it could be very effective to combine training with other strategies such as informational elements, cues, tooltips, checklists, "assistants", etc so we can help and reinforce key paths to desired outcomes right from the application itself.

What are we doing?

We're testing a new application called Appcues that can integrate with Open LMS via the Liquidus plugin and that will be able to display tooltips, modals, hotspots, checklists, and other elements in the platform to provide just-in-time help and guide on how to achieve things.

Here's a quick demo of it on the Open LMS trial site.

How can I participate?

In this group you would be able to:

  • Learn about what we're doing on the product-led onboarding initiative in Open LMS.
  • Provide feedback about onboarding priorities, flows, things to test, user experience, etc.
  • Participate in controlled beta deployments of in-product onboarding flows.
  • Help us build a better product experience for your users.

We would love you to participate in this initiative. Please ask any questions or add any comments, suggestions, or ideas. We'll be sharing details and ask for feedback as we advance!

When is this coming to Open LMS full-production?

We want to do a lot of testing to see if this is valuable for our customers first. We don't know when or if this will become available to all Open LMS customers, but we do want to explore it and we want the community to be part of it.
